We have been celebrating books this week and looking at a different story each day. These have included: The Tiger Who Came to Tea, Elmer the Patchwork Elephant, The Gruffalo, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt and Aliens in Underpants.
Activities have involved Tiger masks, a giant collaborative art work of Elmer, patterned underpants, a tea party, a bear hunt around preschool and much more. On Thursday we celebrated World Book Day and dressed up as our favourite book characters – all the children looked fantastic and there are lots of pictures to see on Tapestry from this week.
On Tuesday we couldn’t resist trying some pancakes and the children had fun following instructions independently to make their own mixture. They weighed ingredients, cracked eggs, poured milk and mixed it all together ready for heating in the frying pan.
The home corner has been turned into a shop to run alongside our other activities with real food for the children to buy (carrots/potatoes/beans/courgettes), add to their baskets, scan and pay for! They have made their own shopping lists and taken it in turns to role play at the checkout.
Friday morning we recapped on our letter sounds ‘s/a/t/p’ and practiced forming the letter ‘t’ with the ‘Read, write inc’ rhyme (down the tower and across the tower). The children have been doing some brilliant writing over the last couple of weeks and some of them have even been starting to blend the sounds we have learnt so far. Thank you to all parents that have been helping them practice their sounds at home.
Next week: we will be using the story of ‘The Hungry Caterpillar’ to explore healthy eating and exercise.
